A two-room cold storage installation at KFC Acton Vale, with a walk-in chiller and a walk-in freezer built side by side off the same prep area. The controllers mounted on the wall outside show the two rooms holding 5.6°C and -16.0°C.
Both rooms are built from white insulated sandwich panels with a wipe-clean hygienic finish. One sits on the existing tiled floor, and the other has an aluminium chequer plate floor laid over insulation to take the traffic of stock being moved in and out through service. Each doorway has a PVC strip curtain behind the door to cut the warm air coming in every time it is opened.
Cooling is handled by ceiling-mounted Güntner evaporators, fed with copper pipework run back to the condensing units in the plant area. Each room runs on its own circuit with its own controller and display outside the door, so the kitchen team can check either room at a glance without opening it up. The Daikin units sharing the plant frame serve the site's air conditioning.
